Brooklyn-based artist, Derrick Adams (b.1970) was one of the many artists who showed up for Art Week Miami. During an interview at the Miami Beach Edition hotel, Adams credited one of his art teachers for giving him the confidence to pursue his career as an artist. “I always thought I was going to be an artist,” he said. “I didn’t really think of it as being something of choice. It was really more, this is what I was doing. It was supported by the people around me. They never told me not to do it. And also even the education system that I was brought up in was encouraging me to be an artist.”
One of Adams’ paintings is currently on view at a special exhibit at the Parrish Museum in Water Mill, N.Y.. Called Fresh Paint , the museum has collaborated with the FLAG Art Foundation to continually showcase a single work by both emerging and established artists. Derrick Adams’ painting, Getting the Bag, 2024, will be on view through January 5, 2025.
Works by Derrick Adams are part of a retrospective of the work of Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004) at the Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris.
Pop Forever, Tom Wesselmann &… is not just a retrospective of Wesselman’s work, but a look at how the works of other modern and contemporary artists weave through and continue to reflect Pop Culture.
The huge exhibit, which takes up all four floors of the Foundation’s building, combines 150 of Wesselmann’s paintings and sculptures, interspersed with the works of his contemporaries like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol , Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist and the works of younger artists like KAWS and Derrick Adams, who created work specifically for this exhibit.
For more than sixty years, Alex Katz collaborated with choreographers and dancers to create exciting and innovative performances.
Alex Katz: Theater and Dance is currently on view at the Baker Museum of Art in Naples, Florida. The exhibit includes, not only drawings and paintings that Katz created of dancers, but also includes video of dancers performing in costumes on sets designed by Katz.
Although this is a traveling exhibit, the Baker Museum is the only stop on this tour that will feature a performance by the Paul Taylor Dance Company along with a talk by Paul Taylor Dance Company Artistic Director Michael Novak on Friday, January 17th.
Alex Katz: Theater and Dance will be on view at the Baker Museum through February 2, 2025.
