The 34th Edition of Art Miami is coming up. Art Miami 2024 will be held in the heart of downtown Miami, at One Herald Plaza, beginning with a VIP preview on December 3rd.
Art Miami is the city’s original and longest-running contemporary and modern art fair, featuring paintings, drawings, design, sculpture, video art, photography, and prints from more than 160 innovative galleries from more than 21 countries.
At VFA, we are exhibiting recent acquisitions by many of our favorite artists. Here’ a quick look at two of those artists:
Alex Katz
Recent acquisitions from the energetic 97-year-old Alex Katz include Elizabeth, 2024 and Summer, 2024, examples of both the portrait and landscape styles he’s best known for.
Katz currently has a solo exhibit at the Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery in Salzburg, a solo show of his dance collaborations at the Baker Museum in Naples, Florida (which will travel to the Frye Museum in Seatte in Washington in February 2025). Currently on view is an exhibit of Katz’s work alongside that of artist Matthew Barney at O’Faherty’s in New York.
Alejandro Cartagena
The works of Alejandro Cartagena (b.1977) are powerful examinations of social, urban and environmental issues. Cartagena was born in Santo Domingo and currently lives and works in Monterey, Mexico.
Included in our exhibit at Art Miami are works from Cartagena’s Carpool series, which are aerial views of construction workers travelling to work along Mexican Federal Highway 85 in the back of their contractors' trucks. Highway 85 links the city center and its wealthier parts with the surrounding suburban sprawl.
Cartagena’s works are part of the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in Río de Janeiro and many more outstanding venues.
Alejandro Cartagena has received many awards for his work, including the international Photolucida Critical Mass Book Award, the Street Photography Award in the London Photo Festival, the Lente Latino Award in Chile, the Premio IILA-FotoGrafia Award in Rome and the Salon de la Fotografia of Fototeca de Nuevo Leon in Mexico among others.
Also on view at our booth will be works by Julain Opie, Keith Haring, Derrick Adams, Katherine Bernhardt, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and Robert Longo.
Art Miami 2024 is held at One Herald Plaza, located on NE 14th Street and Biscayne Bay, from December 3-8. We hope you come and see us at Booth AM205.
