The tenth annual Art on Paper Fair opens from September 5-8 at Pier 36 in downtown Manhattan. The Art on Paper Fair coincides with The Armory Show at the Javits Center.
Our focus at VFA has always been on the Fine Art Print and it is exciting to be a part of a fair that centers on paper as an artistic medium. In addition to the galleries displaying art there will be printing, bookmaking and other workshops, and media-related live performances.
Here’s a peek at two of the artists whose works will be featured at the VFA booth:
Alex Katz (b.1927)
Alex Katz is 97, and still climbing up on a ladder in his SoHo studio to paint gigantic landscapes, and he remains one of the most masterful fine art printmakers in the world.
Last year, Katz did a series of works called White Lotus (like the tv series), depicting couples in different postures against a sky blue background (like in the tv series). Works from the White Lotus series will be available at the VFA booth.
Katz’ work is currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art and at Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice.
Two solo exhibits are scheduled for September: Alex Katz : 60 Years of Printmaking will go on exhibit at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris and Alex Katz: Spring at the Timothy Taylor Gallery in London.
Alex Katz : Collaborations with Poets will be on view at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio from September 15, 2024 through November 15, 2024.
Alex Katz : Theater and Dance will be at The Baker Museum in Naples, Florida from October 12, 2024 through February 2, 2025.
Harland Miller (b.1964)
Harland Miller is a London-based artist and writer, best known for his humorous and thought-provoking paintings of Penguin book covers, like Demons are Forever, available at VFA.
Miller is involved with the Art For Your Oceans project and recently joined a World Wildlife Fund research team to study seaweed and its uses in art and medicine:
Alex Katz and Harland Miller are just two of the artists whose works will be on exhibit at the VFA booth at the Art on Paper Fair. We will also be exhibiting work by Julian Opie, Robert Longo, Polly Apfelbaum and Roy Lichtenstein.
