At age 88, Jim Dine (b. 1935) has been examining his life through art for more than seven decades. He has drawn, painted, sculpted, printed, photographed, collaged, performed and written and read poetry. Every work, in each medium, is a reflection of some aspect of his life.
Dine uses personal objects as self-portraits; bathrobes, hearts and the tools he uses; the tools he worked with at his grandfather’s hardware store in Ohio. In his current show, at the Templon Gallery in New York, there are eleven realistic self-portraits, done in pencil during the pandemic, that closely examine both the surface and the underlying emotions of the artist.
Jim Dine divides his time between homes and studios in Paris, Walla-Walla and Gottingen, Germany. Jim Dine: Three Ships is currently on exhibit and will run through July 28, 2023.
An expansive show of the works of Keith Haring is on exhibit at The Broad in downtown Los Angeles. This is the first time that Haring’s works have been shown in a museum in LA.
The show is spread out among ten galleries. It includes works that he did while he was a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1978 and continues through 1988, just two years before he died, at age 31.
Keith Haring's artwork, and the artist himself, were unique. He truly believed that Art is for everybody and shrugged off his arrests in the New York subways as the price he had to pay for his public work. He captured the hearts of many New Yorkers, art gallerists and CBS news on October 20, 1982:
On exhibit are paintings, drawings, sculpture , videos and many of the works from Haring’s personal journals.
Keith Haring: Art Is For Everybody will be on exhibit at The Broad through October 8, 2023. It will then travel to the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto, from November 11, 2023 to March 17, 2024, and to the Walker Art Center, in Minneapolis, from April 27 to September 8, 2024.
We’ll be at the Hamptons Fine Art Fair this weekend. The Fair features 20th and 21st century art in a beautiful setting, with 140 exhibitors from 13 countries exhibiting the work of more than 800 artists.

The Hamptons Fine Art Fair is held at the Southampton Fairgrounds from Thursday, July 13 through Sunday, July 16.
