Biography

The generative work I make today started life as a series of tools I developed to visualize and build intuitions about geometric objects I’ve been fascinated with since my formative years as an artist.
–Harvey Rayner

Harvey Rayner is an English-born generative artist and creative coder based in upstate New York. He has a diverse background working as a designer, inventor, programmer, and business owner while creating an extensive body of artwork spanning over 25 years.

Throughout his life, he has practiced both art and meditation, often meditating 4-5 hours a day. When he was 22, Rayner visited the U.S. with the intention of  visiting a Zen monastery. Instead, he hitchhiked around the States for six months. He moved to the U.S. in 2010 and began to build software visulaizers that enabled him to create complex geometric shapes, which led to the creation of his generative artworks. Rayner says that he is influened by 20th century artists like Mark Rothko and Roy Lichtenstein.

Rayner and his wife have been married for 22 years. They have two adult children and a dog. Together they  own a company called Moonleap, that makes custom meditation cushions.

Rayner's work explores the intersection of geometry, mathematics, and art. He uses code to generate intricate and beautiful patterns that are both visually arresting and mathematically fascinating. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and he is a member of the Art Blocks Curated platform.

A leading figure in the field of generative art, Rayner's work is a testament to the power of creativity and the potential of technology to open up new possibilities for expression. His work is both visually stunning and intellectually stimulating, and it continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in generative art.
